Girls favourite romantic style is based, as usual, on pastel colours, with the pink colour of varied intensity, from delicate pale to amaranth, reigning supreme. Skirts, dresses, blouses may have several layers in the form of overlapping ruffles. Sleeves of blouses take the form of short puffs with long sleeves attached from the inside. Pleats, ruffles, decorative crochet stitches make the products sewn in this convention seem very girlish.
Autumn/winter collections are a challenge to children's clothes designers and clothing constructors as it is the time of outdoor fun and play while the weather conditions are often unfavourable.
A well designed outfit made from proper materials makes it possible for children to feel comfortable while spending their time outside, regardless of frost, wind, snow or even rain.
Of no less importance for children is also what the clothes designed for them look like. The older the children, the bigger their need to decide about what they wear, about the style, colour as well as favourite decorative motifs. They follow not only their own taste but most often the "fashion” which they observe on their schoolmates, at kindergartens, etc.
In the season autumn/winter '08/'09, the novelty is print fabric by the metre appearing on outerwear: on coats, ski overalls as well as on sports sweatshirts or long sleeve type blouses. The prints are varied: they may imitate sweater braids, e.g. rhomboidal patterns, they may consist of several mixed elements giving an impression of a silhouette, creating a moro effect, or floral prints for girls. Also en vogue is to combine wide stripes with narrow ones.
In the collection autumn/winter '08/'09, the modern look results from dressing in layers. It is not only imposed by the necessity to provide warmth to children but the conscious composition of clothing in such a way as to obtain the modern effect of layers.
Composing the clothing in this way aims at completing a funny and colourful whole. The same concerns hosiery. Tights are designed to look as if knee-long socks were put on them. The multilayer effect is also achieved by making a new product looking as two different kinds of clothes, e.g. a simple T-shirt with a checked shirt collar and sleeves attached. Such products are, on the one hand, standard; however, sewn in this way they receive quite a new expression.
For girls, there are noticeable folklore influences which can be seen in decorative embroidery made with a thick, matte thread. The main motif of decoration is sweet fluffy lambs, Norwegian stars or floral appliqués. The rural style is accentuated by woollen fringe, pompoms and jacquard tapes. It is also typical that sweater or fleece elements are combined with smooth sweatshirt knitted fabric. Strong contrasts are applied by using bright, vivid colours. |
For boys, as in all seasons, sports clothing is preferred. The dominating colour combinations are: black – red, orange – green, navy blue – white – yellow, turquoise – brown. The themes appearing in decorations are as follows: "racing", "snowboard", "boarding", "bmx free ride". The decorative elements consist of a number of different techniques combined, e.g. print, embroidery, jacquard tapes, appliqués.
Another style for boys is clothing inspired by cosmic space, modern robots, a space city, UFOs. Such clothes need special accessories, e.g.: pockets, press studs, rivets, buckles, metal zips. With the decorative elements such as embroideries, prints etc., silver is the dominating colour.
The classic boys' jacket stops being used only on formal occasions and starts complementing everyday clothes. Made from elegant tweed or corduroy, it is worn on a hooded sweatshirt from under which a thin long sleeve with an adequately large print is showing. The outfit composed in this manner is supplemented with worn-out looking jeans with a soft lining inside; this successfully contributes to a fashionable boy's autumn and winter wardrobe. |
